Green Business: Practicing What We Preach.
In addition to developing electronic solutions to paper problems and recommending green business practices to our clients, we do our best to “walk the walk” and not just “talk the talk”.
Here are just a few of the green business practices we’ve implemented…
Greener Web Design and System Development
- Instead of housing servers in our office, we use a hosting provider that employs cloud computing technology to minimize the impact of our development, testing, and production systems.
- We encourage our clients to use existing hosting resources instead of buying new hardware.
- We design web-based systems that allow people to store documents electronically, reducing paper usage and storage.
- We design web-based systems to encourage people to view and route information electronically, instead of printing it.
Around the Office
- We recycle our printer cartridges by sending them back to the manufacturer.
- We recycle our used electronics on Gazelle.
- We try to send electronic documents and avoid printing whenever possible.
- If we do print, we print double-sided or use recycled paper.
- We recycle all of our printed materials and use shredded documents for packing materials.
- We avoid using paper plates or plastic utensils.
- We use refillable metal water bottles instead of plastic.
- We’re part of the eWashtenaw Waste Knot Program.
- We use Energy Star™ computer equipment and appliances.
- We use compact flourescent bulbs and natural light.
- Marisa uses Bum Genius cloth diapers on our Director of Mood Enhancement, baby Caitlin.
Driving & Commuting
- We participate in Ann Arbor’s getDowntown Commuter Challenge
- We take the bus, or share rides to and from work.
- We work from home once or twice a week.
- We conference call with out-of-town clients instead of driving or flying.
- We drive fuel-efficient vehicles.
